Another day, another defeat for the Metros, but this was a very different story with a much improved performance from the Metros.

Things started the same way the previous two game have, with the metros unable to keep possession and allowing the opposition too much time on the ball.

Both the first two Urmston goals came from the Metros failing to decisively close down the ball and get it clear, although the second in fairness was a great strike from the edge of the box. (0 - 2 )

The Metros did pick themselves up at this stage and perhaps it was thge introduction of fresh legs or maybe just signs of improvement that saw the Metros put Urmston under pressure towards the end of the first half, and with only minutes to go Kenny headed in a Patrick free kick via an assist from Jaked to score the Metros first goal of the game (and the season!). (1 - 2 HT)

The Metros started the second half as they had finished the first, and within minutes they struck again, the Urmston goalkeeper failed to deal with a speculative Harry B shot and in the ensuing melee it was Hash who bundled the ball over the line and made the scores level with his first goal for the club. (2 - )

The lead wasn't to last long though, and Urmston re-took the lead when again the Metros defence failed to clear. (2 - 3 )

Still the Metros battled and for the second time they drew level, Matty converting the penaly that he had won with a strong drive in to the box luring the Urmstion defender in to a rash challenge. (3 - ).

From then on it really could have been anyone's game. The Metros played some of their best passing football of the season, but failed to really put the Urmston kkeeper under enough pressure, whilst at the other end Luke was called upon several times to save goalbound efforts.

It was Urmston however who took the lead, Luke coming out a la Schmeichel but could only partially block the shot which just crept in side the post (3-4 ).

The Metros pressed but were caught again on the break when a long through ball found 3 Urmston forwards yards offside in the box but despite protestations from the Metro's star linesman the referee failed to blow and the Urmston striker easily scored. (3-5 )

3 - 5 flattered Urmston, in in fairness the Metros all but deserved a draw, and had they played the first half the way they played the second would have got at least a point.

Man of the Match: The Urmston coach awarded his own MoM award to Luke, but mine, despite very strong a performance also from Kenny, goes to Jonathon who is beginning to make the No 5 shirt his own.

Champagne Moment: Kenny's goal - it was a header and lifted the confidence of the team at exactly the right time.

Referee: 5/10 - Whilst we were grateful for the Urmston assistant coach volunteering to referee there were some bizarre decisions late in the game culminating in an early contender for the most offside goal of the season!

Team homework: Challenging for and winning the "first ball" from clearances, goal-kicks etc.

Squad: Luke, Joe, Calum, Jonathon, Ben, Mattie, Patrick, Kenny, Eddie, Harry, Tom, Jake & Hash

PS - (Metros parents (and players)- these reports only reflect my personal view, and I miss a lot of what goes on especially if deputising for Chris - so please feel free to add your own comments!)

Well, since you asked

I spoke to the Meds coach after the game. He also thought Kenny (as well as Luke!) had a great game, but I wouldn't argue with the choice of Jonny, who has been excellent in all three games so far this season - so another defender wins the award...

He said that he thought his side "hadn't played very well" (although I paraphrase slightly ) but he admitted that that was because they hadn't been allow to - he thought the Metros put them under a lot of pressure - a testament to the hard work the team put in.

If all the team can continue to work that hard, and remember to pass the ball in the way they did in the latter part of the second half, it can only be a matter of time before we see some points on the board.

Well done also to Rob for the inspired substitution which put Hash at centre forward during the second half - his strength and enthusiastic running certainly gave the Meds defence and midfield something different to contend with!

See you all at training!

Nick

Dette and Luke both nominated Kenny too this evening - so it's time to re-instate the parent's Man of the Match award!! Kenny has it for this week - we'll take parent's votes at the end of each game.

I will have to reduce the referees score from 5 to 4 - for some reason he has submitted the score as 2 - 5 rather than 3 - 5.

I have notified the league - gfoal difference may become crucial!!

To be fair - I'm not sure the ref is to blame ....

I think Chris will/should have submitted the score to the league. I filled in the score on the match card - and I'm reasonably confident I entered 3 - 5 as the full time score, but ....

By the way Rob, you need to edit your match report...

I've just seen the AFC Meds version of events and apparently it was a through-ball which found 3 players ONside for their 5th goal (I presume the ref told him it was ok to write this... )

Apologies to Harry Boulton - who scored the Metros first goal of the season against South Manchester in week one - Kenny takes credit for the first header!!

goal diff doesn't count. If 2 teams tie for title/promotion or relegation positions, I believe there are play-offs.
