Another defeat for a Metros team that is still able to pick itself up week after week but can't quite seem to turn the signs of promise in to any sort of run of form.
The first 20 minutes of this game weere very tight. The Metros lined up in a new 4 - 5 -1 formation under Nicks stewardship and this seemed to have paid dividends with the Metros seeing more of the ball, and spending long periods in the wilmslow half.
Unfortunately they couldn't turn this pressure in to a goal, and when mass indecsion broke out in the Metros defence a rather grateful Wilmslow forward helped himself to the easist of goals.
1 - 0 down against the run of play, but worse was to follow when Wilmslow doubled their lead when again a Wilmslow striker made sure he was first to the loose ball following a good stop by Luke.
At the other end the Wilmslow keeper made some good saves, but was helped by some indecisive finishing.
Inspired by Nick's half time talk the Metros pulled a goal back, probably against the run of play again, (I'm sorry - but refereeing means I can't recall who scored - Harry I suspect).
Brief thoughts of a recovery were dashed when a lack of marking a and failure to tackle meant that they were soon 4 - 1 down despite Wilmslow missing a penalty and having a goal chalked off for offside.
Luke then suffered a David Seaman moment when immediately following taking a bad knock on his knee the ball was lifted high into the air and a ball that he would normally have taken easily ended up in the net.
With the Metros currently conceding 5 goals a game this was par for for the season.
There were the usual encouraging signs, in spells the Metros passed the ball and did play some neat football, but this was spoilt by regularly being second to any loose ball. As the game came to an end Wilmslow showed how it should be done winning all the loose ball in the end victory was comfortable.
A few things need saying. A big thanks to the those that got stuck in a bailed and forked the small lakes in each goal mouth to allow this game to go ahead, and also to the Wilmslow management who were extremely supporive despite us turning up without a referee, match card or match ball.
Champagne Moment: Steve ladling mud out of the puddle with a a plastic cup.
Man of the Match: Eddie played well again desoite his obvious frustration but Josh picks it up this week for a whole heatred performance in midfield.

Referee: Wasn't in the mood!
Team homework: I think it's too late for this season.

PS - can I just post a great big thank you to those Metro parents that supported the XL5 Charity gig last night. I hope you all enjoyed yourselves. Oh, well, another Sunday, another heavy defeat for the Metros...
But on this occasion, (unlike last week) not truly deserved, at least by such a margin. Wilmslow are a better side, and deserved the win, but for the first half at least, the Metros were more than competitive. As ever, the lack of a natural goal-scorer (we've been saying this for the past 4 seasons) was costly.
The changed formation almost worked - certainly clogging up the midfield meant that the Metros saw more of the ball, and that Wilmslow has less space to work in when they got it back. And there was some attempt to pass the ball in amongst the congestion.
It was indeed Mr Boulton who scored, although I needed confirmation from another parent as my view was obscured.
I would just like to echo Rob's thanks to the Wilmslow coaches, who are certainly the most affable of opposition. The coach also had some kind words of compliment and encouragement for our performance.
Thanks also must go to you Rob for reffing under less than ideal circumstances - at least the "other" match that afternoon had a more favourable outcome!
Regarding a Man of the Match, I too was going to plump for Josh who worked hard all over the pitch from his midfield berth. To be fair, there were several good performances, and no one had a really bad game, it was just one of those days.
And finally, regarding the XL5 gig. Glad to hear it was a success (financially) - I certainly enjoyed it (up until the rather soggy trudge home in the rain). Those who missed them this time should make every effort to try and catch them on their next 'tour'.
(And yes Rob, I do still owe you for the tickets  )

Sorry you got wet on the way home - would you have stayed dryer if you'd done the running instead of Alison?! ;)

Mmmm, that's a interesting point!
I suppose I might have been out of the rain sooner, but more likely just out of breath...
Besides Allison had the umbrella... it was just like watching Mary Poppins (gawd bless yer!) when she took off
