Firstly thanks to Dave for setting up the goals and saving the rest of us a job.

1/15
The game kicked off at 10:04 and both teams tested each other for the first couple of minutes when James sneaked a shot which the keeper just managed to push wide. We seemed to be back to our habit of starting slow when five minutes into the game Benedict opened the score sheet after Nathan had passed the ball to Ryan who in turn passed it to Benedict. 1 :) 0
A similar situation nearly occurred again when Nathan to Ryan to Benedict resulted in Good shot from Benedict which was saved. Eight minutes in and Nathan shows great vision when their keeper kicks the ball out from the edge of his box and Nathan tries to chip the ball over him, unfortunately it went just over the crossbar as well. We are enjoying a spell of wonderful passing football by the Jets and an all round good performance.
Twelve minutes in and Kyle puts a superb ball into the box and Benedict volleys it into the goal 2 :) 0.
A minute later Nico has a shot which hits the crossbar.

2/15
We start the second half very well with all the activity in Villa’s goal area which pays dividends when within the first minute of play Nathan puts in number three. 3:) 0.
The game continues and it is fair to say that we control the play , however, you cannot underestimate Villa as they have proved that they have the players who are capable of breaking free given the opportunity.
Eleven minutes in and Kyle taps the ball home to add his name to the score sheet from a brilliant cross from Nathan. 4 :) 0.
Two minutes later Kyle repays the favour by putting a wonderful cross into Nathan in the box and he buries it. 5 :) 0.
I don’t know what went wrong here but (or more to the point as a parent I don’t want to admit what went wrong here!) but our defence went wayward and poor Sam was holding the fort facing 3 Villa players and by sheer weight of numbers they got passed him and left Nathan Pardoe no possibility of stopping a goal 5:( 1
Two minutes later it fell apart again and we were more than a little worried when Ville put in number two. 5 :( 2
Kyle had two valiant attempts to pull back the lead in closing minutes of the quarter, one was saved and the second went just over the crossbar.

3/15
The first minutes of the third quarter were very much “tit for tat” when after five minutes when Nathan buried number six in their goal from a corner. 6 :) 2
Four minutes later Ryan has a shot which just went over the crossbar (I think it scraped the paint of the top of the bar!). Benedict a minute later did the same thing. Eleven minutes in and Nico puts an excellent cross into Ryan who puts it through to Ryan who in turn passes it to Will who gets a well deserved goal. 7 :) 2.
Two minutes from the end James has a shot saved (Yes Gary it is a very good habit!).
One minute from the end and Pele (whoops sorry!) Nico does an overhead pass into the Box but we couldn’t make anything from it.

Vince’s Verdict
This was a game of many aspects; we played some of the best football I have seen us play with intelligent passing and thoughtful crossing. We have got caught out because we had a case of Goal-scoring Fever where everybody wanted to get in on the act of getting goals. Chris had a few words and pointed out that the defensive player’s opportunities to score goals come from set pieces.
Timperley Villa was a good side and I don’t think the Score reflects the game so well. I again witnessed a team with good spirit and attitude and would they came away having enjoyed the game because after all that is what it’s supposed to be about.

On a separate ramble, I was privileged to see a picture of Chris’ new beautiful house (I think it was designed by Hans Christian Anderson!) I am sure I am echoing the whole of the Unicorn community in wishing Chris, Diane and family, every happiness in their new home.

Man of the Match - Sam Owens - Well done

Notable performances - Too many to mention

Report from Timperley Villa Website..............

THE TEAM WE PLAYED AGAINST TODAY, I CLASS AS THE YARDSTICK TO WHERE WE WANT TO BE, THEY ARE VERY STRONG AND WELL DISCIPLINED WITH SOME VERY GOOD PLAYERS.

OUR BOYS SET ABOUT THEIR JOBS RIGHT FROM THE START, HOLDING THEM VERY WELL UNTIL A LAPSE IN CONCENTRATION WAS PUNISHED THE WAY GOOD TEAMS DO. THE SECOND GOAL REALLY WOULDN'T HAVE LOOKED OUT OF PLACE IN ANY GAME WITH A LOVELY RUN AND CROSS DISPATCHED WITH A CONTROLLED VOLLEY THAT BROUGHT APPLAUSE FROM BOTH SETS OF PARENTS

IN THE SECOND PERIOD WE CONCEDED 2 EARLY GOALS BUT THEN BOUNCED BACK WITH A FLURRY WITH GOALS FROM BRANDON AND WILL C . THE REMAINDER OF THE GAME WAS WELL CONTESTED IN THE MAIN BUT UNICORNS EXTRA QUALITY SAW THEM ADD THREE MORE GOALS

FOR A SLIGHTLY FLATTERING FINAL SCORELINE,

CAMERON FOLLOWED UP AN EXCELLENT TRAINING PERFORMANCE IN NETS BY VOLUNTEERING TO GO BETWEEN THE POSTS AND PRODUCE A STRING OF GREAT SAVES TO EARN A RICHLY DESERVED MAN OF THE MATCH.

HAVE WE SOLVED OUR GOALKEEPING PROBLEM?

AS A FOOTNOTE I WANT YOU TO KNOW UNICORN HAVE HAD THESE BOYS SINCE THEY WERE 4 YEARS OLD .OUR TEAM HAS BEEN TOGETHER SIX MONTHS AND ONCE AGAIN EARNED RESPECT FOR THE IMPROVEMENT WE HAVE MADE SINCE EARLIER MEETINGS FROM UNICORN OFFICIALS.
