Posted - 13/01/2007 : 17:45:12 AFC Meadowside U9 2-8 Unicorn Sambas U9 Saturday 13th January, 2007 Flixton Fields
The Sambas moved 5 points clear of nearest rivals NJ Wythenshawe after this comprehensive victory over an under par Meadowside team.
Star of the show was Andy Nugent who was instrumental in the Sambas establishing a commanding lead within the first period of the game. The first goal came as early as 80 seconds after a great cross from Andy saw Sam Smith put the ball into the net. Soon it was 2-0 and it was again Andy Nugent who created and scored the goal himself, after persistent play down the left flank. The third came from Sam Roscoe, a low driven shot and Andy supplied the cross for Max Parker to nudge the ball home at the back post for goal number four.
The second period was a little more even and Meadowside pulled a goal back on 25 minutes. Stung into action, the Sambas restored their four goal advantage on 30 minutes with a Sam Roscoe shot from distance. Indeed it was Sam Roscoe who completed his hat-trick on 37 minutes (his left foot again) to make the scoreline 6-1.
In fairness to Meadowside they continued to push forward to the bitter end, however Unicorn were able to add two further goals in the last minute. Joe Cronshaw and Callum Walker with close range efforts made the score 7-1 and 8-1 respectively before, with almost the last kick of the game, Billy Nixon scrambled the ball over his own goal line (hard luck Billy) to make the final score 8-2......the best league win of the season!
A happy start to the new year for the team with a solid performance from all of the boys, with Sam Roscoe and especially Andy Nugent putting in outstanding performances.
Next - Ryleys Nomads @ The Willows - Saturday 20th January.
