Unicorn Sambas 4-0 Ryleys Nomads
Saturday 20th January, 2007
The Willows Primary School

The Sambas moved closer to winning the Divison 1 title after a hard fought win against a very competitive Ryleys Nomads outfit. There are two league games remaining and the Sambas remain at least 5 points clear at the time of writing.

It was a blustery day and the game suffered in terms of quality. It was in the 7th minute Sam Smith tucked away the first of his three goals after good work from the outstanding Marcus Allison. Sam was on the mark again three minutes later after support play from Max Parker and Andy Nugent enabled Sam to score from close range - 10 minutes 2-0.

Thereafter the Sambas defence had to remain resolute as Ryleys started to press forward to find a foothold in the game. At the back, Marcus Allison and man-of-the-match Joe Conway always looked in control despite some intense pressure. Ollie Byrne in goal had a quiet first period but became more active as the game progressed.

Although Unicorn created several chances in the second period playing into a strong wind, it wasn't until the 39th minute when Andy Nugent set up Sam Smith for his third goal, a close range effort on the back post, that the win looked totally secure. The fourth came two minutes later after a good interchange with Joe Cronshaw saw Charlie Boulton score comfortably from close range (41 minutes - 3-0).

Ryleys applied late pressure but ended the game scoreless.

A good all round team effort from the boys!

It's the Cup next week with an away tie at Wilmslow.
