Posted - 15/10/2007 : 13:56:28 For the second week running the Panthers were unlucky not to have got something out of a hard thought match, this time against a strong, organised Vulcans side who, like us, tried to play football and make for an exciting game - for the neutral at least!
Having a full squad to pick from for the first time this season was not to happen again as Elliott had been knocked off his bike earlier in the week and although on the mend was only able to cheer his mates on from the touchline - get well soon mate!
Vulcans started the stronger of the two teams as we adjusted to our re-shuffled formation and took the lead early on following a well worked move and the ball being slotted past Speighty despite a valiant effort from Philip on the line.
The boys settled down after this setback and the back four of Phil, Evo, George and Mitch organised themselves well to soak up any pressure whilst midfielders Ben, Sam St, Bysie, Trevo and Ally had tehir usuall battles in the middle of the park looking to set up our strikeforce of JP and Chris. It was JP who levelled the scores with a cooly taken shot late in the half seeing us go in level at the break.
The second half saw us take the upper hand with some great football especially on the flanks. We were, however, suscpetible to breaks as both teams went for the win and but for some brilliant saves from Sam Speight and a man of the match display from Mitch - highlighted by a goal-line clearance when one on one with a Reddish striker - our failure to take our chances could have seen the visitors out of sight.
Once again our small squad was our downfall - the lads were gradually running themselves into the ground - a late strike giving Reddish the spoils in a game when we deserved a point at least. The half-term break will give us a chance to lick our wounds and I am confident the boys will soon get that bit of luck they deserve.
