We arrived at Timperley Sports Club each with our own recount of the storm of last night to face Altrincham Jnrs (AJ). AJ had a good result against the Stretfordians last week and therefore we were a little weary of what to expect. We were heartened by the news that the Unicorn sportsman’s dinner may become an international event with the possible attendance of the Galway Jets supporters club (If anyone would care to buy me a drink at this event I wish to state categorically that I will not be offended and any subsequent rosy reviews of your sons performance will be unrelated, honestly.) .

1/15

Well the referee blew promptly at 10 am to start the first quarter, and we started quite lively (for the Jets that is!) thanks to Chris’s warm up training. With in the first couple of minutes Kyle made a good run down the right wing and had an early shot on goal which was saved by their keeper. Four minutes into the game and Benedict had a shot at goal and the agonisingly ran along the goal line until Kyle stepped up and tapped it over the line (I think, this account is disputed by Benedict who believes the ball had already crossed the line). 1: 0
Jets had a corner and Jamo had a shot on target which was deflected by a defender when Nico turned and shot just wide of the goal. Chris makes his first squad change with Nico and Kyle being replaced by Will and Ryan Eleven minutes into the game and Adam puts a great ball into the box and Will has a crack which is saved by the keeper. The rest of the quarter is “Tit for Tat” football and Chris makes his second change with Nico and Kyle coming on for Sam and Jamo.

2/15

We start the second quarter with some changes to the line up with Nico, Will and Adam on the subs bench (Well they would have been if we had one!). We are playing excellent football, wonderful and intelligent passing. After one minute we are awarded with another goal when Nathan Philips puts in the back of the net. 2:0
Five minutes into this quarter Nico has a run (Did I mention that last week he….) and pulls the trigger and the ball just whispered wide of the post. We are starting to find some many opportunities up front that we are (typically!) neglecting the defence however and thankfully Adam is playing a blinder of a game. Kyle does a wonderful turn on the ball and puts a superb pass through to Ryan in the box who puts it in the net. 3:0
This is followed by some more excellent football in both building the attack and defending the goal. Jamo and Adam do some very important tackles. Nathan takes the ball forward and passes it to Ryan who shoots but the keeper is playing very well and saves it. We are turning the screw tighter and putting the pressure on their goal.

3/15
The start of the third quarter is fired off with Benedict with a good shot going just wide. While we are concentrating up front Adam holds the fort with a superb and important tackle. Four minutes into the quarter and they are given a penalty for Handball, well what can I say the hand and the ball made contact, but in no way did the hand move to the ball, it was purely a case of the hand being attached to his wrist which was directly in the flight path of the ball. But never fear the might Nathan Pardoe is here and pulls perfect save pushing the ball over the crossbar. We are back into it Sam puts a great ball into the box where a scramble occurs where everybody tries to push it into the net, Benedict is the successful one and it just goes wide.10 minutes into the third and Kyle puts a great pass through to Ryan who shoots but again this keeper is up to the task. On the last minute Kyle has crack at goal and again the keeper saved it

Vince’s Verdict

There was a lot of excellent football being played by the Jets and only for the prowess of their keeper I am sure the scoreline would have been much bigger. AJ played some good football but I think we started to shine on the ball halfway through the first quarter. They started to show cracks when they kept knocking the ball out for a throw or corner more and more as the game progressed. I think the handball decision was harsh but that’s football. I enjoyed the game today; the ground was one of the best we have played on. How many of us noticed that a single guy put up both of their goal post in a quicker time than the Jets “Keystone Cops” antics ever manage. I also have to admire Colin who seems to always suss out where he can get hot coffee.

Man of the Match – Nathan Pardoe

Notable performance by Adam

So well done

THE MIGHTY JETS KEEP ON FLYING HIGH

Good report again Vince!!!!It could have been a few more yesterday but AJ defended stoutly and with some determination. It should be another good game next week against them at the Willows in the return leaue game.

With Communities winning yesterday, it is looking increasinlgy lkely that the away game against them on the 15th December will go a long way to deciding the destination of this seasons Div 2 league championship title!

Just for interest - If teams are tied 'top' on points at the end of the season, I believe goal diff does not count, and that a play off game (or games) are organised.

Regards,

Eagley
