Following the Xmas break re-shuffle of the U13's teams which has seen our three teams merged into two this weekend was our first competitive fixture as we hosted local rivals Ashton-on-Mersey at Beech Fields.

From having fielded scratch sides for most of the season so far we now had the luxury of FIVE substitutes and with all the squad pretty much having had firm starting places prior to the merger picking a starting 11 and not upsetting anyone had been playing on my mind for the weekend! As it turned out all the boys played a great part in a well contested match.

Both sides started brightly but it was the Panthers who took the lead after 10 mins or so with Chris smashing home from the edge of the box. Ashton drew level from the penalty spot shortly after before skipper Ben stole forward to nod us into the lead once again.
Speighty was unlucky as he pulled off a brave save only to see Ashton tuck away the loose ball to level the scores at half time.

With players getting to know their new team-mates and being asked to play in perhaps slightly different positions to what they are used to ther may have been a danger of us losing our shape but to the lads' credit they were playing football all over the pitch and their organisation was excellent. Perhaps we could have been a bit more ruthless (and greedy at times) in front of goal but for some good keeping from the visitor's goalie who had to be replaced after a brave save and the save of the match from his replacement we could have scored more. As it was, Sam T came off the bench and made an immediate impact chipping the ball over the defence for Ben to bravely notch his second before smashing home our fourth and final goal, picking up man of the match in the process.

Good solid performances from all our boys - 100% record this year!

Squad : Sam Sp, Philip, George, Will, Mitchell, Patrick, Sam B, Sam S, Ben, Ally, Alex C, Rob, Sam T, Chris, Thomas, Alex J
