Another year, and another disappointing result.

Yet again the Metros were short-handed, Ben still not having fully recovered from his broken arm and Calum away on National Service, so it was a 10 man Metros squad that faced up against a Sale side that on paper might have been a realistic hope for at least a point.

Frankly, the first half performance was the worst I've seenm from a Metros team. Very little effort, very few tackles and the only reason that the half time score was only 2 - 0 was a succession of saves from an in form Luke.

Chris quite rightly read the players the riot act at half time, resulting in a much improved second half performance, but the extra man and a rather generous interpretation of the offside law meant that Sale managed to double their lead before the end.

There really weren't many bright spots, the Metros fashioning just one shot in the whole game, and that following a brilliant run from his own goal area by Kenny.

The three man back four played quite well, particularly in the second half, suggesting that this maybe a way forward to releasing additional players to the midfield, where like most games this one was won and lost. The Metros simply did not win enough ball, and when they did they failed to make good use of it.

When back to full strength this team will push teams hard in the second half of the season, but only if the same effort is shown for the full 60 minutes as was shown in the second half.

Champagne Moment: Kenny's mazey run.

Man of the Match - I hope that I won't be accused of bias, but the score could easily have been much worse but for an excellent display of goalkeeping from Luke.

Parent's Man of the Match: I don't think one was picked, but I thought that Kenny looked back in form, Mattie played very well in the second half and Jonathan and Hash both had solid games. Perhaps someone would like to suggest a winner?

Referee: 8/10 - I still maintain that refs cannot be held responsible for offsides.

Team homework: Effort.

Squad: Luke, Joe, Jonathon, Hash, Matty, Patrick,Tom, Kenny, Harry & Eddie.

First half; Joe, Jon, Hash, second half, Mattie, Jon, Hash.

Joe was suffering a little from (would you believe) another trampolene related accident!

I think Ben's scan is this week - hoping for the all clear!

Thanks for the report Rob.

Apologies once again for Calum being absent yesterday - I'd hoped that we would have had enough to cover and at least field 11 - any news on a likely return date for Ben?

Interesting to note that the "back 3" experiment was not unsuccessful - who were the 3 yesterday?
