Posted - 31/03/2008 : 20:30:10 Good grief - when will my lads get a break?
With confidence low and a daunting trip away to second in the league Broadheath, was it any wonder that the Dragons were full of trepidation for this tie? With the pre-match warm-up and team talk out of the way, (and without wishing to bore you senseless with a ball by ball account) what we as parents subsequently witnessed I would simply summarise as the most enthralling combative game I have so far experienced in this league. Whilst I have no doubt Broadheath had a spring in their step following the result of our home fixture earlier in the season, I also believe their (perhaps - and forgive me for saying this Broadheath) over confidence was quickly forgotten when the Dragons (with their 'never say die' attitude) took the game to Broadheath from the very first whistle.
End to end stuff of the like I've never seen, this game had it all, with neither team overly dominating. With both teams passing the ball of a standard that belies their youth, this game was entertaining, combative and competitive. Great passing, timely tackles, fantastic saves, controversial decisions, it had it all except, in my opinion the right result.
Whilst I'm sure Broadheath are pleased with their 3 points, they, I'm sure, would be the first to agree that a draw would have been a fairer result. This I know because of the many compliments bestowed upon the Dragons by Broadheaths' management team (for which I'm grateful) and parents at the end of the game.
I've said it before and I'll say it again that the Dragons are a credit to themselves, parents and the league. The may not have won a game this season (so far), but as their manager I can't help but believe they've won so much more.
