Jets Friendly away to Ashton on Mersey 18Apr08.
The Jets Still Flying High
Ashton on Mersey have enjoyed considerable success in the 1st Division this season and so we travelled to Welfield Primary School with a little trepidation as to what would be the outcome of this match.
1/15
The game kicked off at 10am and both teams spent the first five minutes settling in. After 5 minutes Nico had a shot at goal which was saved. Then both sides were probing the others defence, although I have to say that AoM seemed more alert to chances than the Jets. Ten minutes into the Game Nico made an excellent pass through to Benedict who in true Benedict style put the ball in the net and we were one up. 1 :) 0
Two minutes later Nico had an excellent shot at goal which required an excellent save by the keeper. The game continued with AoM probing our defence when then won a free kick and scored an excellent goal equalling the score. 1 :( 1
The game maintained the tit for tat probing for the rest of the period.
2/15
The second period started much as the first had finished both teams respecting the others ability. Three minutes in Benedict put a great pass through to Nathan who shot just passed the post. Two minutes later AoM take the lead. 2 :( 1
A minute later we had a goal disallowed because it didn¡¦t cross the line! Ten minutes into the period and we have a corner that Ryan takes and puts a good cross in which Kyle buries in the net and we are back in it. 2 :) 2. We are starting to take control now and 5 minutes later another corner from Ryan which Kyle puts in the goal. 3 :) 2. We are starting to look like the winners we are.

The third period and AoM are trying to pull this match back, but 2 minutes into the period and Nathan has a shot on goal saved. Three minutes later Kyle shoots at goal and Nathan just gets a head to it and diverts into the back of their nets. 4 :) 2. The game continued with both teams giving what they get, but the score remained at 4 ļ 2 for the Jets when the final whistle blew.
Vince¡¦s Verdict.
This was a very entertaining match and both teams deserve a lot of credit for the way they played. The Jets again showed a lot of character after their one goal lead vanished, then finding themselves losing 2:1 and still come back and win the game. There was a good atmosphere present and both sets of parents obviously enjoyed the football. The team played some good football, but I have seen us play better and one or two players although didn¡¦t play badly, were not as sharp as they sometimes can be.
