Posted - 05/12/2006 : 17:22:35 The Metros needed to build upon last weeks point - and who better than Fletcher Moss? Having drawn at their ground and had chances to win the game there was an air of optimism at Broadheath Primary School.
On a very windy day the toss it was good to win the toss - but where many teams would prefer to save the wind for the second half the Metros decided to go all out in the first half and chose to kick down wind.
It looked a good decision as Fetcher Moss found it hard to clear their lines and when they did they found Kenny's pace too much to handle.
The Metros had several chances in the first 15 minutes, but neither Eddie, Harry nor Kenny could test the keeper enough and despite a series of corners and totally dominating possession the half time whistle blew with the score 0 - 0.
Inevitably the second half was the complete opposite. The Fletcher Moss midfield began to take control and began to exert more pressure and the Metros attacks were limited to the odd counter.
Something had to give and very soon Fletcher Mosss took the lead when a ball broke free in the box and the unmarked striker showed the Metros forwards how it is done, shooting first time in to the corner. (0-1 )
This should have been the wake up call that the Metros needed, but they were struggling to get a hold on the game, and the continous pressure led to a rare defensive error and despite Luke getting a hand to the shot (and indded Callum behind him too!) it trickled over the line to give Fletcher Moss a two goal advantage. (0-2)
At last the Metros responded, and managed to carve several opeings and put the FM defence under some real pressure, but yet again the keeper was rarely tested, with shots fro several players going wide.
There was to be no fairy tale. Fletcher Moss held out for a deserved win - but the Metros know they didn't do themselves justice.
Your roving reporter was pressed in to refereeing at the last minute - the game may have looked very different from the touchline - certainly it did to the FM parents who contested every decision! This may be why there was so much dissent from the FM players - perhaps a lesson for all of us parents on the touchline?
Training is on Thursday night - I expect that shooting will again be on the agenda!!
