The Dragons were given an immediate chance to put good last week’s poor performance in the return home fixture against Fletcher Moss A.

This time the Dragons started with more urgency and determination and the first chance came from the combined work of Matt, Josh and Mike but Mikes shot was well saved. Mike then nearly set up Josh with an inviting cross but it just eluded both him and Adam at the far post. However it was clear FM were still going to be hard opponents and Alex had to make a good save as gradually FM started to put the home team under pressure. However with Jon’s tight marking and great cover things were looking up and Reece nearly opened the scoring with a long range free kick that skimmed the far post. Adam was also making good runs down the left and the game was starting to get some rhythm however a spate of strange referring decisions (was it Graham Poll in disguise came one touchline shout?) quickly broke it up and the period ended even.

FM nearly took the lead early on in the next period however Alex smartly turned the shot around the post and saw a good firm FM header from the corner go just over. This stirred the Dragons into action but even when Adam picked up the ball just in his own half nothing looked on however a quick surging run down the left and a thunderous left footer gave the FM keeper no chance and the far post was still shaking as the ball crossed the line. More Dragon pressure followed prompted by Reece in midfield who was having another fine game and Adam nearly set up Fraser but his great turn and shot was deflected for a corner. Then Josh put in a great cross that was superbly held by the FM keeper with both Fraz and Adam ready to pounce but it was not all one way and Alex had to make another good save to keep the lead in tact.

The last period started evenly but was again broken up by some more “Pollisms” which were hard to take especially when the Dragons were on the break but brought back for no reason, however with Grady and Matt keeping tight on their attackers at the back it was looking secure. Grady even had time to make one great run up field but what was really encouraging was that even when it broke down the rest of the team were on hand to cover. In fact in the last 7 minutes or so both Mike and George were making last ditch tackles in defence and with this attitude the Dragons held onto their lead despite late FM pressure and secured the win, 1-0. Not so long ago the team would not have held on but the teams improved determination to grind out a result brought them deserved rewards – well done lads.
