Posted - 04/03/2007 : 23:14:00 Lymm Rovers play on the side of a hill with outstanding views over towards Manchester and the Pennines - or at least there were views until kick-off when the rain arrived, the view disappeared and, with nothing to stop it, the wind blowing across the pitch feeling as though it had come straight from the Arctic.
Winning the toss was important, and the Metros did, so played in to the gale in the first half.
Despite this they managed to play some good passing football and created a couple of decent chances, although any shot today had to beat the wind long before it got the chance to beat the keeper.
Lymm barely posed a threat and the Metros went in at half time ahead on points if not goals. ( 0 - 0 HT)
Actually, everyone wished we had been able to go in at half time, as it was the players, parents and coaches huddled under a large if leafless tree and got steadily colder and wetter. Lymm however used local knowledge to hold their half time team talk under an evergreen that at least provided some shelter.
The second half went to plan, with the Metros having all the possession and the whole half (bar two stray clearances) being played in the Lymm half, leaving Luke trying to keep warm at the other end of a rather muddy field rather like Eyeore in his gloomy place!
The Metros knocked and knocked, but couldn't find a way through the packed Lymm penalty area. They continued to pass well, but couldn't find the final ball or finish to get the goal they deserved.
0 - 0 is becoming a familiar scoreline for the Metros, and whilst they are still hard to beat, they really will have to find a goalscorer from somewhere if this squad is to progress further.
Having said that, the effort put in by the lads in quite atrocious conditions deserves great credit - but where was John O'Shea when we needed him!
The next couple of matches are likely to be friendlies - a chance to try out some new forward lines perhaps?!

So, when Luke rather comically fell to the floor during the second half, when no other player (or the ball) was within 30 yards, had he in fact discovered a rather tasty patch of thistles?
