Posted - 18/07/2007 : 15:47:20 Last season had its ups and downs as followers of the match reports will know, but the season was rounded off by a super afternoon/evening presentation bash last Sunday.
Huge thanks go to the Boulton's for turning their house and garden over to the squad, their parents and various brothers and sisters, to those tha co-ordinated the shopping for the excellent BBQ & buffet and to the staff at Walton Park 5-a-side for fitting us in at short notice when the weather threatened to disrupt the afternoons planned "multi-sport" activities.
Goodbyes were said to Hussein and Sean who are moving on to their new teams, and to Keith who is hanging up his coaching jacket.
Equally importantly there were awards for all the players, fitting in a year when effort perhaps went un-rewarded but not un-recognised. You can't always measure a seasons by the number of Leagues and Cups won, after all we are all here to give the lads the opportunity to play football, but there were perhaps too few champagne moments and too many candidates for the bloopers DVD!
Ben, Joe and Kenny picked up the Player's, Manager's and Parent's awards, with Own Goals taking the Leading Goalscorer!
I'll gloss over the Dad's mini match where yours truly and team were comprehensively thrashed by Kenny Snr's team!
The final votes of thanks went to Wendy for keeping on top of the cash, and of course to Chris for all his hard work last year - and his promise to come back next season for more!
All in all it was a great afternoon - the end of an era perhaps, but hopefully just the start of a new chapter.
I'll finish with a couple of my highlights from the year - you might like to add your own? In no particular order:
Hussein's Maradonna like run and finish.
Luke's Eyeore moment at Lymm.
The fantastic if eventually unsuccesful 8 man second half fightback against Urmston.
