Bright sunshine, no wind and a morning kick off saw the Metros (eventually) all finding their way to the Broadheath ground in Partington.

With a full squad to choose from and the team showing signs of bouncing back from two recent defeats what could be a better test than the old enemy and current top of the league?

The opening 10 minutes were cagey, with neither side dominating but the Metros if anything had the better of the opening exchanges.

Both defences looked in charge, and the midfield fairly congested, especially as at least one of the Metros wingers struggled to remember his position (no names eh Eddie?!).

The Metros still looked the more dangerous team and justifiably took the lead. Mattie picked up a short corner and clerverly lobbed in to the goalmouth for Shaun to head home solidly (1 - 0 Musscroft )

Broadheath came back strongly and pressed for an equaliser, Luke tipping round the post when it semed as if the Broadheath striker had to score, and the defence clearing their line, albeit a bit nervously.

At the other end Tom took what can only be described as a robust shoulder challenge and did well to pick himself up.

Half time came with the Metros still one up and looking good for it.

The Metros have been here before though. Most of their defeats (and indeed draws) have resulted from teams coming from behind and punishing them for not finishing the game off.

Broadheath came out strongly in the second half, but the Metros were up for the battle. Calum and Shaun were solid in the centre of midfield, Kenny and Matty ran their socks off and when Broadheath B did break through, the solid back three of Hussein, Joe and Ben were ready and waiting.

Eddie (and later Harry B) caused problems up front with his pace, and the Metros carved out a number of half chances, but at times looked a little reluctant to shoot, and meanwhile the pressure began to build at the other end.

In the corresponding fixture at home the Metros were pegged back by a stronger Broadheath team late on, but the extra fitness training that Keith and Chris have put in meant that this week the Metros were able to keep going.

Tackles were won, and although the shape went a little, mainly due to the Metro players wanting to win every ball, this time there was to be no disappointment as Unicorn Metros held out (perhaps for longer than was necessary?!) for a deserved victory. (0 -1 )

It is alway great to beat your local rivals, and it was nice to think that we might have done the Falcons a favour, but more importantly this was a great result for the squad and just reward for a fantastic team performance.

Everyone played their part (even the parents!) and hopefully this will be a platform to go on to push for the highest possible league finish - even if silverware is now out of reach.
