Well done to the Wizards who were the runners-up in today's Eric Speake trophy.

(Well done also to the Dragons who took the third place award after topping their qualification group).

The Wizards went through their five group matches unbeaten as follows:-

Deans 2 - 0 (Goalscorers - James O, Matt)
Alderley Edge 3 - 0 (Ross, Tom, Felix)
Sale United 1 - 1 (James O)
Irlam 4 - 0 (Ross (2), James O, Tom)
Ashton 1 - 1 (Felix)

This placed them at the top of the group and into a quarter final versus Reddish Vulcans. Ross scored both goals in a 2 - 0 victory.

The semi-final saw a rematch with Deans. By this time the heavens had opened creating difficult playing conditions. Following two periods of extra time, no goals had been scored and we reached the dreaded penalties.

Two fine saves from Paul and excellent penalties from Joe, Alex, James O and George saw the Wizards through.

The final brought another rematch, this time with the hosts Sale United and with all the players beginning to feel the effects of their eighth match of the day, Sale narrowly prevailed with a 1 - 0 victory.

This was a great introduction to 9-a-side football for the players and augurs well for the new season. James D was named as a player of the day, so well done to him and all the Wizards for some fine displays.

Thanks to all at Sale United for organising a great day which will have helped all the players as they prepare to make the transition to 9-a-side league football.

Well done Rob, Mark and the Wizards! We finished 3rd in the same tournament last year and went on to finish 3rd in the league. Lets hope it's the same or better for your lads!
