Following a mad dash to find a pitch following a double booking at Beech Fields the sides turned out at Heyes Lane, our home ground from a couple of seasons ago and now boasting the lowest goals in the league at barely 5' high! Two years on and against a big strong Vics side it was clear there wasn't going to be much space but the 'magnificent 11' looked to carry on their good start to the season.
As predicted the match was a scrappy affair - the lack of room making it difficult to create many chances although of the two sides we managed to eke out a few more efforts than the visitors. Ally marked his appearance up front with a well taken opener remarkably chipping the keeper despite the height of the goals to give us a half time lead, maintained thanks to a good stop from Speighty to retain parity.
The start of the second half saw a bit of an onslaught from Vics whose ability to freshen things up with substitutes (oh, those were the days - "can I go on yet?" chorused from the subs following me up and down the line)but despite not having that luxury and with Trevo bravely continuing to battle on after a nasty knock to his elbow and Ben nursing a sore knee the lads stood firm and started to get a grip of the game. Mitchell, George and Bysie were solid at the back once again and the midfield of Ben, Trevo, Philip, Elliott and man of the match Sam Storey started to dominate - our lead extended when Evo continued from last week following in a long range effort and tucking away his 4th goal in two games after the keeper had parried the shot.
A satisfactory performance from the lads but we may struggle to keep this up with such a threadbare squad. Nevertheless congratulations to the boys for their tremendous attitude and workrate.
