Barr Hill 2 Eagles 8 - Div 1, Sun 30th September
The Eagles provided the spectators with a goal fest at Barr Hill this morning. With Chris & Mike n/a, the lads had a squad of 12 so were told to concentrate on their football, work for each other and enjoy what turned out to be a colourful game against strong Salford based opposition.
The Eagles opened the scoring when on one of their many early forays into the Barr Hill penalty area the ball was diverted into the goal by way of a Barr Hill defender 0-1. Soon after Mark scored from a corner (0-2) before Dino made it 0-3 and then Chaz made it 0-4 with good goals before half time. Last week against Deans, the same type of chances were not going in, but the lads were making up for it in this one!
Barr Hill changed their formation in the 2nd half playing 3 at the back and they pulled one back early to make it 1-4. The Eagles defenders were playing with great aplomb, with Andy, Husain, Will & Shaun snuffing out most attacks with ease. Willie came out bravely to a through ball and took studs in his side in what was an accidental collision but manfully carried on even though he sustained a cut. Barr Hill were playing with more purpose and they pulled another goal back to make it 2-4. This could have led to a bit of an Eagles wobble, but instead intelligent midfield play ensured that Dino latched onto another great through ball to make it 2-5. Mark finished another good move to make it 2-6, before Chaz who had done great all day shot under the bar for his 2nd, to make it 2-7. Mark completed a fine day for him and all the lads by burying the Eagles 8th and his 3rd near the end.
All in all a great win. The boys still have things to work on but this result should give them a big boost against strong (up to today unbeaten) opponents from Bar Hill.
MOM Shaun - class act controlling the back four and set the foundations for a solid team performance. Well done!
