Eagles 4 Ashton On M'sey 3 - Div 1, Sun 28th Oct
First of all the Eagles would like to thank Jo and Grahame Crofton for all their efforts over the years with the Eagles. Jo has decided to leave and we wish him and his family all the best for the future.
The game this morning at BTH was a cracking advert for the T&DJFL 1st division as Ashton, with only 10 players available, gave the 11 of Unicorn (with no subs) a great game of football. With the Eagles back four coming to terms with the unfamiliar formation as Will & Andy S were unavailable, it was Ashton who took an early advantage when they breached the Unicorn backline to take the lead. With only their 2nd attack of the game, Ashton couldn't believe their luck when they were offered a simple chance to double their lead which they promptly did.
The Eagles though, had a few chances and bizarrely were 2-0 down whilst playing some of their best passing football of the season! Shaun pulled one back for the Eagles after a neat passing move involving good work from Chris. The half time score was 2-1.
With the Eagles now in the ascendency, the home supporters felt it was only time before parity was restored. It came as a shock when the Ashton forwards again took avantage of some generous Eagles defending to make it 3-1. The Eagles continued to play the better football and pulled another goal back through a cracking effort from Charlie. Parity was indeed restored when Shaun scored his 2nd, before immense pressure from the Eagles resulted in Dino curling a free kick into the back of the net to make it 4-3 to win the game.
The Eagles played some great stuff today - the whole team were 100% committed to the cause and deserverd the win. 12/15 points is s pretty good return from th first 5 games of the season. Keep it up!
MOM - Chris - he had a great game and set up 2 of the Eagles goals.
