On a perfect afternoon for football and resplendant in their new kit and rainjackets the Panthers welcomed Hattersley from the Metro League to Beech Fields for this County Cup encounter.
After last weeks dramatic final few minutes the boys went out looking to pick up where they left off and within moments JP had raced clear and slotted in the opener to settle any nerves. I think the visitors were a little stunned at James' pace and he could have notched himself a hat-trick within the first ten minutes. As it was, a brilliant long range strike from Ally doubled our tally as the boys used the wings brilliantly and got their passing going. There were partnerships building all over the pitch - Sam Sp was in imperious form once again on the occasions that our back three were breached. George, Mitch and Philip were once again solid for the main part at the back. The midfielders were enjoying themselves with Sam S, Trevo, Ben, Ally, Elliott and Trevo all playing a part - man of the match Bysie was back to his best after getting the rugby out of his system! Chris and JP upfront remained a threat and both notched a goal each towards the end of the half to give us a 4-0 lead at the break.
Having been told not to be complacent at the re-start, especially with Mitch having to come off feeling poorly, we promptly were and Hattersley pulled a goal back very quickly. Not to be out-done however, Evo joined the forward line and slotted our fifth goal shortly after. This signalled a few positional changes from us and also spurred the visitors on who to their credit never let their heads drop and were rewarded with a second goal midway through the half. Some brilliant and brave keeping from Sam Sp kept Hattersley at bay as they got the bit between their teeth. The remainder of the half was end to end with chances from both sides - Hattersley getting a third towards the end. Ben acrobatically cleared a goal bound effort from under our crossbar which could have made for a nervy final few minutes but the scoring was complete with a final score of 5-3. Well played to both teams for their efforts in this well spirited match.
