ST JOHNS JFC 2 - 1 UNICORN TIGERS

A bitterly windy day greeted the dads and the lone matriarch who turned up to watch the boys entertain us and that they did. They were playing a team near the top of the table and over the forty-five minutes showed that they were on the same level.

It was an awful day in which the wind must have hit the Beaufort scale but both teams played some good football. The pitch sloped down at both ends and in the first half The Tigers played with the wind on their backs but couldn't take advantage. A couple of good chances were spurned in that first session and then it was St Johns turn to take advantage of the trade winds and they used it to score the opening goal of the game. I'm not sure whether their player meant to cross the ball or shoot but nonetheless it ballooned* in. An elementary mistake by the defence then enabled St Johns to score their second. It then became essential that The Tigers won the next toss of the coin for the final session. We seem to be very good at doing that and again we won it.

The Tigers were playing some lovely football and finally scored the goal that brought them back into the game. Adam's shot was somehow palmed out by their goalie into the path of Sam who prodded it into the net. This gave The Tigers the impetus for a rousing finish but they just couldn't snatch an equaliser which would have been well deserved.

It's been a good week with United reaching the next round of the cup and beating Portsmouth comprehensively but the best bit was hearing about City losing in the cup again - this time blaming the balloons*. Will they ever learn?

See you all Saturday.
