STRETFORD GLADIATORS 1 - 4 UNICORN TIGERS
After last weeks disappointing cup exit it was back to the league where the Tigers were up against Stretford Gladiators who were second in the league and unbeaten all season. I was sat at home enjoying my pre-match ritual of chucky eggs and soldiers when I put my phone on and read the message that the game had been brought forward by half an hour to 10 o'clock. For once it was me and not the boys who was late but nevertheless we found our way to Flixton just about in time. Some people didn't and some went to Smiths Fields so it was unbelievable that after all these shenanigans that we kicked of at about 10.15.
The Tigers played probably their best game of the season and shocked the Gladiators when they took a two-goal lead through Tom and Ben H. It was well deserved and it was not long before Ben H. scored his second and the Tigers' third goal. One of their managers was heard to shout - "You got yourself in this mess now get yourself out of it." He's obviously been to the Sven school of lack of Plan Bs.
The Gladiators did pull a goal back but his only woke the boys up and Tom almost immediately went down the pitch with the ball and scored the goal of the game. The 4-1 victory was nearly symmetrical with United later in the day and would have been if Saha had not notched the fifth in the dying seconds. A great performance led ably by Steve and everyone played their part. Thank you lads.
