With manager's across the country calling for a mid-season break to rest players the Metros demonstrated why, for some, a long break does no good at all.

May be it was too many eggs at Easter, or over-relaxing too much after a hard term at school, but whatever it was the Metros just were not at the races in the first half.

South Manchester deserve their place near the top of the table but they are not a high scoring team, but what they do well are tackle and pass. Winning most if not all of the second ball meant they had the lions share of possession, which they used well carving open the Metro's defence time and time again.

Within 10 minute the Metros were three down and the game was all but over as a contest. What little confidence they had was broken, and South Manchester's grew as a result.

South Manchester scored 8 goals by half time, with only one goal in reply from the Metros. Although the goal was a tiny puddle in the desert it is worth pointing out that the goal came from good tackling back from Eddie, a neat through ball to Harry who calmly rounded the keeper. Simple and effective.

In Chris's absence Nick and I had most of our decisions made for us with Calum unable to continue playing having rushed back from a wedding the remaining squad of eleven had to battle it out.

Half time was a fairly unpleasant experience for all, had it been a boxing match the referee would have stopped it to save the Metros taking any more punishment, but the players were challenged to prove that they were better than they had shown - and they did.

Whilst SM had the majority of possession in the second half the Metros defended better, and used the ball more intelligently, and although SM added a ninth to their tally they could not take their total in to double figures, somthing that looked a formality in the first half.

It is to be hoped that a return to training, added to the extra steel of the second half performance will encourage the team to better things next week.

Champagne Moment: I can't recall much to celebrate, so Harry's finish get this one by default.

Man of the Match: I thought that Eddie got stuck in and started to look for the ball in the absence of any creativity from mid-field so he gets my vote.

Nick's Man of the Match: (see below)

Referee: 7/10 South Manchester arrived without Match Cards, a ref and without nets. Luckily an U17 SM player was on hand. He was perhaps a little lax on some robust challenges but not bad overall.

Team homework: Google a picture of a football. Study the picture. Without the ball you are sunk!

Squad: Luke, Jonathon, Hash, Calum, Matty, Joe, Patrick, Ben F, Kenny, Harry, Eddie, & Josh.

Eddie is my man of the match as well, by some considerable margin.

Other than that, I'm of a mind not to dwell too much on this performance in the hope we can just forget that the first half ever happened, and in expectation that the second half performance is what we will be seeing in the few matches that are left this season.

By the way, we apparently lost 2 - 0 to Urmston Meds on Thursday, according to the league website. Did I miss something? After todays performance I'm wondering whether we should settle for that
