UNICORN TIGERS 2 - 1 ASHTON ON MERSEY

This was the boys first match under floodlights and an entertaining spectacle was served up for the cold and hungry crowd. To keep meself amused during the kickabout I was daydreaming about the pre-season meeting when it was decided that the luckless parents of the boy who scored The Tigers' 50th league goal would treat all the club to a slap up meal (parents and children). Anyway I digress again.

This was an excellent performance against a team who had thrashed us 6-1 earlier in the season. It was possibly as good a performance as they have given this season. Both teams played some excellent football and when Jake scored the opener the game was on. Ashton got back into the game after being given a penalty when Ben H handled the ball on the line - actually it was a great save. Luckily for his dad the referee (who had an excellent game) did not use the letter of the law and ensure Andy had to pay a fine. The boys responded well and got back into the game when Ruori obliged with his first goal of the season. And how did he celebrate. Mind you as Robbie Williams sang - when I'm drunk I dance like my dad - you should have seen Brian dancing on the touchline with the linesmans flag in his hand. I thought I had no rhythm. You cannot beat partisanship. I thought the sight of their manager getting upset with Phil and his substitutions as they tried in vain for an equaliser was a Kodak moment.

A great result for the boys but where were the muffins? Is this the future for night games?

URMSTON MEADOWSIDE 0 - 6 UNICORN TIGERS

On the Saturday The Tigers ventured into Flixton to play Urmston Meadowside. This was the team that we thrashed 7-0 in the second game of the season. There was no complacency here as the boys roared into them. You know it's going well when we change goalkeepers for the last third. Steve took control for his game while Phil watched from the stands. Sam opened the scoring before getting a second for himself. Ruori who has found his shooting boots got into the act with a fine brace. I couldn't bear to look at his dad this time. When Adam popped up with the fifth I suddenly thought about that pre-season meeting and went into shock. Looking at my records I was relieved to see that it was only the 49th league goal of the season.

Phew I thought. And then to cap off a great week James scored the sixth and The Tigers' 50th league goal of the campaign.

A wonderful week for the boys and with two games left there is still the possibility of finishing between fourth and seventh. I look forward to seeing you all on Saturday morning for the Timperley derby.
