A mid-morning pitch inspection revealed why Derek was so keen to take the Timperley Rec pitch, Beech Fields looking more like Beach Fields at high tide.
Even a first sight it was clear that the match was in doubt and a quick call to the opposition to warn them was followed by the very swift arrival of the opposing manager who agreed that the pitch was at best unsutable and probably dangerous.
It was only after we agreed to postpone the game and the League and referee notified that he admitted to having no subs and several key players missing - DOH!
Joking apart the game could not have been played - on what was probably the nicest afternoon we've had for a long time. An afternoon indoors supervising homework was scant consolation.
On a side issue, the already bent cross bar on our pitch was again being swung on by lads from another club down training - for the second time the coaches concerned did nothing to stop them - very disappointing.
Training continues in the gloom at Smith's Fields on Thursday - 6:00 - 7:00.
