There will come a time when I either start these reports at 2 - 0 down or just gloss over the early stages of the game - actually, in fairness the first 20 minutes of this game were nip and tuck with defences on top and neither keeper really called in to action, although Luke had been called upon a couple of times to clear up long through balls.
The opening goal came from another long ball, but the real potency was in the pace of the striker and this time Luke could not get there in time and the Lymm marksman lifted the ball cleverly over the oncoming keeper. ( 1 - 0 )
It looked as though the Metros would strike back quickly, with Liam racing on to a Metros long ball only to see his shot nestle in to the side netting.
To add insult to injury Lymm went straight down the other end and scored a second, certainly 2 of the 3 forwards who broke through were well off side but neither Nick nor I could be sure if the lad who finished the chance was. (2 - 0 )
Just when it looked as though the Metros would go in to half time they drew a goal back, Oliver forcing the ball in following a succession of corners to give the Metros a boost going in to the second half. 2 - 1 )
The second half followed a similar pattern, but Lymm began to exploit the long ball and Luke was forced in to a series of saves to keep the result in the balance, but when a clearance ricocheted off the referee it was the Lymm players who reacted quicker and made it 3 -1 ( )
The Metros had their moments, Liam and Oliver coming close and Alex was denied when through one on one with the keeper, but a goal mouth clearance, the bar and the post all came to Lymm's aid and in the end Lymm probably just about deserved their win for taking their chances.
Lymm lost to Sale last week, and it looks like most teams in the league are capable of taking points off each other, but if the Metros are going to challenge at all they need to win a few more tackles and try a find a few more passes to feet - plenty of work for the coaching staff.
Man of The Match - Oliver had a good game today, and tracked back to help the defence out, but at the risk of being accused of bias I'm giving it to Luke, even if one of his saves came from rescuing his own Paul Robinson air kick!
Champagne Moment - Not many on the pitch so I'm awarding to the Mums for scattering in all directions when a high clearnce landed amongst them.
Referee - Not bad, perhaps a little over zealous on foul throws, but in fairness by now there are really no excuses for not being able to take a throw in.
Squad - Luke, Patrick, Jonny, Hash, Robbie, Calum, Mattie, Simon, Oliver, Harry, Alex, Liam, Tom, Joe & Connor.
Training - Thursday at 5:30 at Smith's Field.
Next game - Sunday 26th October away to Moorside. Kick-off to be advised.

Disappointing to succumb to a second away defeat (in successive matches), but this was a better performance than was seen in the previous match against Altrincham, even if Lymm did ultimately deserve their win, as much for better finishing (and perhaps a better executed game plan) as anything else.
None of the players had a particularly bad game and some indeed played well, so its difficult to pinpoint exactly what needs to be improved in order to get results from games like these, in which both teams were fairly evenly matched (other than the score-line ). I suspect it just requires a greater consistency of effort, a bit more composure on the ball to make sure that possession isn't wasted quite as often, and perhaps a bit more luck in front of goal thrown in for good measure.
I've got no problem with Luke being named Man of the Match. Both the Lymm coach and the ref commented that they were impressed by his performance and quite rightly so. I would also concur with your comments about Oliver, who is starting play very well in the right midfield role. |
