UNICORN TIGERS 2 - 6 HOUGH END GRIFFINS
This Sunday we welcomed the league leaders with a 100% record - Hough End Griffins. Hough End is a name to conjure with as I sure most of the dads have played there at some stage of their footballing careers - indeed I made my debut in the Lancashire Amateur League as a ringer for Old Gregorians circa 1980. I came on as an half time substitute and with my first touch gifted our opponents a goal not unlike Cashley Cole on Saturday evening. When some of the team started saying things like "Who the hell is that - or words like that?" I hid for the rest of the game and never saw the ball again. They never asked me back - some people are so ungrateful - so I hung up me boots for the umpteenth time.
This game was played out to a well-known scenario in that The Tigers impressed with their football but fell into the usual trap by conceding soft goals. Twice in the game HEG scored directly after we had been in their area or after a corner. As they say it was like watching Wimbledon versus Brazil in their pomp. HEG had the strength to boot the ball from one end to the other whereas the Tigers fall short in that area. When the game looked to going away at 0-2 Sam pulled a goal back to make it 1-2 with a glorious shot. I'm not too sure about his cartwheel celebration though. HEG again broke away and scored their third before the break.
The second half followed in symmetrical fashion to the first with Sam again finding his scoring boots with an even better goal. Their sixth goal in the last minute rounded off a cracking game.
A very good performance considering the result. Good performances from Ben C and Joel and all the team played well except for some naive errors. I know the score looks like a hammering but it wasn't. Their manager told me in the car park afterwards that we played the better football.
I'm sure that you have read the email from Phil this week and I can only wholeheartedly agree with him. This week we are away to Broadheath where we can get the results back on track.
See you all on Sunday morning.
